Bumblebee Snails (Engina mendicaria)

Bumblebee snails are small, eye-catching members of the clean-up crew, named for their distinctive yellow and black striped shells that resemble a bumblebee's coloring. These carnivorous snails are particularly effective at controlling unwanted pests in reef aquariums.

• Small size (typically 0.5-1 inch) allows them to access tight spaces
• Hardy and adaptable to most reef conditions

Care Requirements:

• Temperature: 72-78°F
• Salinity: 1.023-1.025 specific gravity
• Diet: Carnivorous - feeds on small snails, worms, and meaty foods; may require supplemental feeding if pest populations are low
• Reef Safe: Yes, but may prey on small beneficial snails if food is scarce
• Acclimation: Drip acclimate for 30-60 minutes

Important Notes:
Bumblebee snails are more predatory than typical herbivorous CUC members. They're best added when you have a specific pest snail problem. Monitor their behavior and ensure adequate food sources to prevent them from targeting desirable snails. They may occasionally burrow in the sand bed while hunting.
