Orange Linkia Starfish: Stunning Reef Centerpiece
Orange Linkia Starfish (Linckia sp.) are among the most beautiful and sought-after sea stars for reef aquariums. With their vibrant orange coloration and graceful movement across rocks and glass, these stunning echinoderms create a captivating focal point in any reef display. However, they are considered advanced specimens requiring excellent water quality and established aquariums.
Why Orange Linkia Starfish?
- Brilliant orange coloration creates stunning visual impact
- Graceful movement adds dynamic interest to your reef
- Reef-safe and won't harm corals or other invertebrates
- Natural scavenger that consumes detritus and film algae
- Long-lived with proper care in established systems
- Peaceful and compatible with most reef inhabitants
Care Requirements:
- Temperature: 72-78°F
- Salinity: 1.023-1.025 (very stable)
- pH: 8.1-8.4
- Excellent water quality - low nitrates (under 20 ppm) essential
- Well-established aquarium with mature live rock and microfauna
- Supplement diet with meaty foods if needed (chopped clams, mussels)
- Stable iodine levels for health and regeneration
- Moderate water flow
IMPORTANT - Advanced Care Required: Orange Linkia Starfish are sensitive and require pristine water conditions in well-established reef aquariums (6+ months old). They are NOT suitable for new tanks or systems with unstable parameters. Poor water quality or rapid acclimation can lead to deterioration and loss of limbs.
Critical Acclimation: Sea stars are extremely sensitive to sudden changes in salinity, temperature, and pH. Acclimate very slowly using the drip method over 2-3 hours. NEVER expose sea stars to air - this can cause air bubbles to become trapped in their water vascular system, which can be fatal. Float the bag, then submerge it completely before opening underwater.
Additional Notes: Linkia starfish can regenerate lost arms over time. If a starfish begins losing limbs, this is often a sign of poor water quality or inadequate food sources. Address water parameters immediately and ensure adequate microfauna in the system.
Tank Size: Minimum 75 gallons, well-established with abundant live rock.
Each Orange Linkia Starfish is carefully selected for vibrant coloration and health, quarantined, and inspected to ensure you receive a premium specimen ready to thrive in your established reef aquarium.
