Mexican Turbo Snails: The Ultimate Algae-Eating Powerhouse
Mexican Turbo snails are legendary in the reef keeping community for their incredible appetite and efficiency at controlling nuisance algae. These large, robust herbivores are among the most effective cleanup crew members you can add to your reef aquarium, capable of consuming massive amounts of hair algae, film algae, and diatoms.
Why Mexican Turbo Snails?
- Exceptional algae-eating capacity - one of the most voracious grazers available
- Large size allows them to tackle substantial algae problems quickly
- Consume hair algae, film algae, diatoms, and cyanobacteria
- Reef-safe and won't harm corals or other invertebrates
- Hardy and adaptable once properly acclimated
Care Requirements:
- Temperature: 72-78°F
- Salinity: 1.023-1.025
- pH: 8.1-8.4
- Requires slow, careful acclimation (drip method strongly recommended)
- Adequate calcium levels for healthy shell maintenance
- Ensure sufficient algae or supplemental feeding if algae is limited
Important Note: Mexican Turbo snails cannot right themselves if they fall over. Monitor their placement and gently assist if needed to prevent stress and ensure they continue grazing effectively.
Each Mexican Turbo snail is carefully quarantined and inspected to ensure you receive healthy, active specimens ready to tackle even the toughest algae challenges in your reef aquarium.
