CaribSea Florida Crushed Coral 40lb
Geo-Marine Florida Crushed Coral - 40 lb
CaribSea's Geo-Marine Florida Crushed Coral is the only crushed coral with aragonite and provides over 25 times the buffering capacity of other crushed corals. In actuality, this product is not crushed at all, but is a natural product that is screened to size. The unbelievably natural substrate provides dramatic color and texture to your aquarium environment and combines well with fine reef sand offering creatures such as jawfish, blennies and burrowing crustaceans an opportunity to dig, burrow and create their own unique homes. Due to the fact that the Coraline Caribbean Crushed Coral substrate is so coarse, it makes an excellent choice for systems that feature undergravel filtration or where elevated pH levels are required. The substrate has been purposely engineered and is free of impurities such as ash, metals, pesticides, and silica; which allows you to create a safe and beautiful environment for your fish and invertebrates. Can be used alone or as a textural admixture. The 40 pound bag features a typical size between 2.5 mm and 5.5 mm and has an average density of 72 pounds per cubic foot.
Feeding & Diet
Feeding & Diet
An opportunistic omnivore, the Pithos Crab will scavenge detritus, uneaten food, and algae — making it a natural cleanup crew member. Supplement with small meaty foods like mysis shrimp or pellets 2–3x per week if natural food sources are limited.
Care & Water Parameters
Care & Water Parameters
The Pithos Crab thrives in stable, well-maintained reef conditions. Target parameters: temperature 72–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026 SG, pH 8.1–8.4, and alkalinity 8–12 dKH. A mature, established tank of at least 20 gallons is recommended.
Reef & Tank Compatibility
Reef & Tank Compatibility
Generally considered reef-safe. The Pithos Crab coexists well with most corals and peaceful fish. Use caution with very small invertebrates or slow-moving tankmates. Provide ample rockwork and hiding spots to reduce territorial behavior.
Size & Growth
Size & Growth
Pithos Crabs are typically shipped at 0.5–1.5 inches. They are slow-growing and generally remain small, making them well-suited for nano and mid-size reef systems.
