Rubble Zone - 1 gal

CaribSea's Rubble Zone is a premium-quality aragonitic material that is ideal for use in a variety of freshwater and marine applications. Limited only by your imagination, this ultra-versatile product will help you anchor coral frags, craft breathtaking visual displays, create filtration-enhancing cryptic zones, and much more! Each container of Rubble Zone contains a random selection (approximately 6 pounds) of 1" to 4" easily managable fragments.

A Few Rubble Zone Applications:

Creating Displays - Place Rubble Zone pieces as desired on the bottom of your aquarium. Surround a large live rock centerpiece with a cluster of Rubble Zone fragments to create a stunning aquatic display.

Refugium Use - Place Rubble Zone fragments along the bottom of your refugium. Makes an excellent substrate for macro algae holdfasts, and a superb growing area for copepods and other benthic food sources.

Cryptic Zones - In a crowded refugium, Rubble Zone can be used right in its container! Simply remove the label and drill several 1/4" to 1/2" holes. Refill the container with Rubble Zone and situate in an area of your sump with good water flow.

Entertaining Burrowing Fish & Inverts - Place Rubble Zone fragments in an empty aquarium, then add fine grain sand to fill the voids for a total depth of 3" to 4". Cover the entire aquarium bottom or create a dedicated section.

African Cichlid Aquariums - Place Rubble Zone as desired on the bottom of your aquarium. It provides stress-reducing cover for smaller fish, and helps prevent larger fish from disturbing finer substrates. Can also be used inside your filter to provide biological and pH support.

Pond Use - Rubble Zone provides exceptional biological and pH support in pond filters. Also provides similar support in aquarium filters.

Feeding & Diet

An opportunistic omnivore, the Pithos Crab will scavenge detritus, uneaten food, and algae — making it a natural cleanup crew member. Supplement with small meaty foods like mysis shrimp or pellets 2–3x per week if natural food sources are limited.

Care & Water Parameters

The Pithos Crab thrives in stable, well-maintained reef conditions. Target parameters: temperature 72–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026 SG, pH 8.1–8.4, and alkalinity 8–12 dKH. A mature, established tank of at least 20 gallons is recommended.

Reef & Tank Compatibility

Generally considered reef-safe. The Pithos Crab coexists well with most corals and peaceful fish. Use caution with very small invertebrates or slow-moving tankmates. Provide ample rockwork and hiding spots to reduce territorial behavior.

Size & Growth

Pithos Crabs are typically shipped at 0.5–1.5 inches. They are slow-growing and generally remain small, making them well-suited for nano and mid-size reef systems.
