Dragon Wrasse:

The Dragon Wrasse (Novaculichthys taeniourus), also known as the Rockmover Wrasse, is a captivating addition to any reef aquarium. With its vibrant colors and unique juvenile-to-adult transformation, this species offers both visual allure and dynamic behavior, making it a favorite among seasoned aquarists. Known for its intelligence and playful nature, the Dragon Wrasse can become the centerpiece of your marine setup, adding a touch of exotic charm to your aquatic environment.

**Why Dragon Wrasse?**

- **Stunning Transformation**: Watch as the Dragon Wrasse matures from its striking juvenile phase, featuring bright green and black patterns, to its more subdued yet equally beautiful adult form.
- **Active and Engaging**: Known for its inquisitive nature, the Dragon Wrasse is often seen flipping over rocks in search of food, offering endless entertainment.
- **Distinctive Personality**: Unlike many other fish, the Dragon Wrasse develops a unique personality, often recognizing and interacting with its caretaker.

**Care Requirements**

- **Water Parameters**: Maintain a stable environment with a temperature between 72-78°F, salinity of 1.020-1.025, and pH levels from 8.1-8.4.
- **Tank Size**: Due to its active nature and potential adult size of up to 12 inches, a minimum tank size of 125 gallons is recommended.
- **Feeding**: Offer a varied diet that includes live or frozen foods like shrimp and krill, as well as high-quality marine pellets designed for carnivorous fish.

**Compatibility and Considerations**

While the Dragon Wrasse is a stunning addition to your aquarium, it may not be suitable for all setups. It is best kept in a fish-only or carefully selected community tank, as it may disrupt smaller invertebrates and corals due to its rock-moving behavior. When housed with similarly sized or larger fish, the Dragon Wrasse can coexist peacefully, making it a versatile yet slightly challenging species for those ready to embrace its unique quirks.

Embrace the beauty and charisma of the Dragon Wrasse as it transforms your marine aquarium into a lively underwater spectacle. Perfect for the dedicated aquarist, this fish promises to bring life, color, and intrigue to your underwater world.

Feeding & Diet

An opportunistic omnivore, the Pithos Crab will scavenge detritus, uneaten food, and algae — making it a natural cleanup crew member. Supplement with small meaty foods like mysis shrimp or pellets 2–3x per week if natural food sources are limited.

Care & Water Parameters

The Pithos Crab thrives in stable, well-maintained reef conditions. Target parameters: temperature 72–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026 SG, pH 8.1–8.4, and alkalinity 8–12 dKH. A mature, established tank of at least 20 gallons is recommended.

Reef & Tank Compatibility

Generally considered reef-safe. The Pithos Crab coexists well with most corals and peaceful fish. Use caution with very small invertebrates or slow-moving tankmates. Provide ample rockwork and hiding spots to reduce territorial behavior.

Size & Growth

Pithos Crabs are typically shipped at 0.5–1.5 inches. They are slow-growing and generally remain small, making them well-suited for nano and mid-size reef systems.
