NITROUS
NITROUS
Full-Spectrum Nitrogen Supplement
Concept:
MICROBIAL MARINE NITROUS is a full-spectrum nitrogen supplement. Corals have been shown to selectively uptake ammonium and urea as their primary nitrogen sources, rather than nitrate. Many studies have also demonstrated that nitrate addition can cause stress to corals by altering the ideal population of zooxanthellae in their tissue. NITROUS uses USP- and ACS-grade ingredients to deliver ammonium and urea to your reef. Faster growth, better coloration, and denser tissue are widely reported among those who have switched to ammonium + urea dosing. NITROUS can also be used to start new aquariums, cycling them faster compared to using ammonium alone, due to its wider nutrient profile. Shelf stable for over a year. Dosing pump compatible.
Instructions:
Apply 1 mL per 10 gallons (40 liters) daily for regular use. This is a safe dose and will deliver ~ 0.1 mg/L of ammonia (0.084 ppm) this is about 0.36 ppm of nitrate upon conversion. If transitioning from dosing nitrate, slowly increase the dose of NITROUS weekly by 1–2 mL and monitor nitrate levels until the desired level is reached. When first using NITROUS instead of nitrate, you may observe a decrease in nitrate until the dose of NITROUS is scaled up.
Apply 2 mL per gallon (4 liters) ONCE if cycling an aquarium.
NOTE: Ammonium and urea and consumed by corals during the photoperiod (daytime) thus if you have a large dosage of NITROUS you are adding daily it may be best to dose this only over the photoperiod to ensure the corals are quickly consuming it and ammonia does not accumulate to toxic levels at night.
Ingredients (mg/g of product):
Ammonium (10), Urea (2.5), Water, Stabilizers.
Feeding & Diet
Feeding & Diet
An opportunistic omnivore, the Seahorse will scavenge detritus, uneaten food, and algae — making it a natural cleanup crew member. Supplement with small meaty foods like mysis shrimp or pellets 2–3x per week if natural food sources are limited.
Care & Water Parameters
Care & Water Parameters
The Seahorse thrives in stable, well-maintained reef conditions. Target parameters: temperature 72–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026 SG, pH 8.1–8.4, and alkalinity 8–12 dKH. A mature, established tank of at least 20 gallons is recommended.
Reef & Tank Compatibility
Reef & Tank Compatibility
Generally considered reef-safe. The Seahorse coexists well with most corals and peaceful fish. Use caution with very small invertebrates or slow-moving tankmates. Provide ample rockwork and hiding spots to reduce territorial behavior.
Size & Growth
Size & Growth
Seahorses are typically shipped at 0.5–1.5 inches. They are slow-growing and generally remain small, making them well-suited for nano and mid-size reef systems.
