Striped Four Damsel: A Vibrant and Hardy Reef Companion

Introduce a splash of color and vitality to your reef aquarium with the Striped Four Damsel (Dascyllus melanurus). Known for their striking blue and black stripes, these lively fish are a favorite among both novice and experienced reef hobbyists. The Striped Four Damsel is not only visually stunning but also incredibly hardy, making it an ideal choice for aquarists looking to add vibrancy and resilience to their aquatic environment.

**Care Requirements**

The Striped Four Damsel thrives in a well-maintained reef aquarium with stable water conditions. Aim for a temperature range of 72-78°F, a pH level between 8.1-8.4, and a salinity of 1.020-1.025 specific gravity. These fish are well-suited to tanks of at least 30 gallons, providing them with ample space to swim and explore. Regular water changes and proper filtration are essential to maintain optimal water quality.

**Feeding and Nutrition**

An omnivorous species, the Striped Four Damsel is easy to feed and will readily accept a variety of foods. Offer a balanced diet consisting of high-quality marine flakes or pellets, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp and mysis shrimp. Providing a varied diet ensures they receive all the necessary nutrients for vibrant coloration and robust health.

**Compatibility and Social Behavior**

The Striped Four Damsel is generally compatible with a wide range of reef tank inhabitants, including corals and other fish species. However, they can exhibit territorial behavior, especially in smaller tanks or when housed with more docile fish. To minimize aggression, it's advisable to introduce them to the aquarium last and ensure plenty of hiding spaces within the rockwork.

**Why Choose the Striped Four Damsel?**

Beyond their captivating appearance, the Striped Four Damsel is a resilient and adaptable fish that can withstand varying conditions, making it a reliable addition to any reef aquarium. Their active nature and striking color pattern make them a delightful and dynamic presence, enhancing the overall aesthetic of your underwater sanctuary.
