Biologically ideal calcium supplement for reef aquariums using the Balling method

Calcium is one of the most important elements in seawater, as together with carbon dioxide it is required for the skeletons of fishes and corals in the form of calcium carbonate. For this reason, calcium should be added to reef aquariums in particular, in order to enable the healthy growth of stony coral and create natural conditions. With Tropic Marin® Bio-Calcium the tank receives exclusively carbon dioxide and calcium in the biologically-ideal form in accordance with the Balling Method. In contrast to other calcium supplements, Tropic Marin® Bio-Calcium

Does not disturb the ionic balance and the pH value remains stable.

Benefits:

Biologically ideal calcium supplement for reef aquariums using the Balling Method

The crystalline form means there is only one component instead of the usual three

Supply calcium and alkalinity without disturbing the ionic balance

Contains all 70 trace elements found in natural sea water

No unnatural by-products

Exact dosages without prior dissolving

Will not alter pH of aquarium water when used as directed

Without phosphates and other pollutants

Feeding & Diet

An opportunistic omnivore, the Pithos Crab will scavenge detritus, uneaten food, and algae — making it a natural cleanup crew member. Supplement with small meaty foods like mysis shrimp or pellets 2–3x per week if natural food sources are limited.

Care & Water Parameters

The Pithos Crab thrives in stable, well-maintained reef conditions. Target parameters: temperature 72–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026 SG, pH 8.1–8.4, and alkalinity 8–12 dKH. A mature, established tank of at least 20 gallons is recommended.

Reef & Tank Compatibility

Generally considered reef-safe. The Pithos Crab coexists well with most corals and peaceful fish. Use caution with very small invertebrates or slow-moving tankmates. Provide ample rockwork and hiding spots to reduce territorial behavior.

Size & Growth

Pithos Crabs are typically shipped at 0.5–1.5 inches. They are slow-growing and generally remain small, making them well-suited for nano and mid-size reef systems.
